Start with your floor space. The widest piece in this department stretches to 72″, and the tallest stands 86″ tall. Measure the wall or the gap where this will live before you pick a finish. A 47 inch cart fits between many standard cabinets. A 71 inch cabinet reaches above eye level and works more like a small hutch than a counter.
If you charge devices on the kitchen counter right now, the three models with outlets and built-in USB ports can clear that clutter. We put those outlets at counter height so you do not have to bend down to plug in a stand mixer or a tablet. None of these pieces include adjustable shelves inside, which means you cannot reconfigure the height of a storage bay for a tall stockpot. That is a real limitation if you plan to store oversized cookware behind closed doors.
Barn doors slide instead of swinging open. They look good, but they also mean you cannot pull both sides open at once. If you need full access to everything inside at the same time, a single door or an open cart serves you better. This department does not include anti-tip hardware in any box, so we recommend that you secure a piece taller than 50 inches to the wall yourself if children use the room.
These eight pieces fit kitchens with at least 32 inches of free width along one wall. They will not work well in a galley layout narrower than that, and none of them is light enough to move across the room every day without the help of wheels. Pick a rolling cart if you want to push it aside when you are not cooking. Choose a stationary cabinet if you prefer something that stays exactly where you put it.
